Genre - Drama

Today I did some researched on my original idea on a drama. I researched about what really makes a film a drama, characteristics of this genre, and movie examples. From what I learned, dramas are most certainly emotionally driven. Every scene and character moves the story forward in a defined narrative plot structure with emotional and relational development. This genre portraits real life scenarios with realistic characters in realistic setting and extreme situations.

Characteristics and elements that shape a drama lie in character and relationships, mood, atmosphere, dramatic tension, audience, voice, tone, movement, and role. The drama genre fits into a broad spectrum of films since there are a bunch of sub-genres. Some of the most popular ones now a days are romantic drama, teen drama, and historical drama; however, a widely known one is film noir.

Some really well known drama films are The Godfather and Casablanca. I have always really enjoyed drama films and these two can be recognized by how amazing and remarkable they were.

The Godfather is a 1972 hit movie still well known now a days as one of the greatest films ever made. This is a mob drama based on Mario Puzo's novel. The film got nominated for and won multiple Academy Awards.

Casablanca is a 1942 romantic drama film, and as well this film is considered one of the greatest films ever made; after all it did win three academy awards for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Director. The film shows themes of love and sacrifice as a main conflict.
