Setting

Today, during class, with my partner we discussed a few things about the productions location, the outfit design, and more. For setting, we had a few options in mind, the top two where at my house or his house. We decided that the best spot to shoot would be Manuel's house. He haves many cool props we will be able to use to have a complete look of what we currently have in mind. We will shoot inside and outside his house. We have also started creating the story boards and shot lists. I will post them as soon as we are done creating them.

We will begin the filming process during spring break since its coming up in less than a week.

The Plan!!

Hey everybody!

After many group discussions and going about its me and my partner have finally decided on our projects story line! YAY It was about timeee lol.

So let me explain the story. In this teen drama we will be following our main character who will be played by Manuel Name. He is a very dedicated student, he has always been devoted to school and his studies. He's top of his class and a pride to his parents. He haves two loving parents who appreciate and praise all of his hard work, they couldn't be any prouder. In his free time he enjoys playing video games and nothing else, he doesn't have many friends or ever hangs out with them since he is a very introverted guy, or so we thought... One Friday night, our main character is playing video games as usual and as his mom walks in his room to say goodnight, he lays down in bed and says goodnight as well. As soon as his mom leaves the room and closes the door, we see he receives a text. This text says something like, "we are here". Now the main character gets up, gets dressed and quietly sneaks off the house behind his parents backs. He jumps off his bedroom window and runs off to a car, his friend's car.

The main character haves a whole different life behind the peoples eyes. He is seen as a quiet and studious kid by his parents. And a reveler rebel by his friends and people at school.

We are really happy with how the storyline came out and we will post our storyboards and shot lists soon!!

Base Of Our Project

Today me and my partner discussed the sub genre in drama we would like to incorporate on our film. And we decided on a teen drama. Teen dramas follow a teen or a young adult throughout their daily life. However, their life is never like any other, these stories usually have a lot of conflict and feature high stakes even though they are based on real life scenarios. The story moves forward by the main character's every action and emotion, as these films are plot and emotion driven. The character's in these movies usually have a very strong sense of self, after all they are teens designed by adults.

And example of a teen drama would be Pretty Little Liars, this was one of the most popular series in 2010 and forward. This teen drama follows the lives of five best friends as their inner circle falls apart after the disappearance of their leader. With time they find deep secrets on the depths of their friendship.

Me and my partner believe this would be an exciting and stirring genre to work with.

Quick Little Reflection :)

As I reflected on the past few days and all that had been going on, I found ease in my mind. I feel way more relaxed now that I know that with my new partner we will be able to work twice as hard and trouble free. With new schedules to work together and plan our project during the weekdays. This was a key moment to me since it impacted the whole project. I am excited to see what we do.

So far the project has been going at a fairly slow pace. This was not only because of bad communication with my last partner but also because of the lack of motivation. However, I still made some rewarding research I will be able to utilize in my pre production. I am now more than ready and motivated to move forward on this project with my new partner.

Change Of Plans!

Over the weekend I made a big and needed choice. I noticed over the days that some things weren't working well and I decided to change my plans for this project completely for the best. The thing was that me and my partner where having trouble with working out our schedules to work together and so we have been falling behind on the plans for the production Not only this but we looked at the project from totally different sides so I believed it was the best for us to part our ways. Dayna wanted to stick with the idea of a silent film but I was simply not into that, especially after learning how hard it can be to successfully prosecute it. So yes, Dayna and me will be working together no longer.

After making this big decision I already feel a bit relieved and I can think clearly on my own ideas and how I want to proceed with this project. It was all very sudden but I am ready to move forward as the research I have done up till now is still helpful as I am gonna prosecute my original idea of sticking with drama as my genre.

One thing that gave me a change of heart was speaking with a fellow student, Manuel Name. We talked about our progress on the project and discussed our ideas and we found out we have a very similar aim to this project and so we thought partnering up would be vastly advantageous for the both of us. And so I talked to Dayna and she completely understood and agreed we didn't make the best group seeing that we had very different conceptions intended.

From now on, you will hear lots from Manuel and me and our journey through this projects production!

Music to My Ears

What's up guys, today I hung out with Dayna and we were talking about possible solutions to music. Our issue is that for this project we have to either create original music, copyright/royalty free music, email the owner of the song that we want to use if it was created by a popular artist or possibly making our film opening silent. She was thinking of using Spotify to take a look, but we were also exploring other options like YouTube and Sound Cloud. We were talking and she also told me she has a friend who is really good at composing music and also had me look at his page. He's really talented, but I don't know if he would be compatible for the project because he tends to create songs that are of the jazz genre and I'm not sure if that's what were looking for. If he's open to it, I think it would be fun to work together to make a different genre of music.

While looking though these different mediums to find copy right free music, I was surprised to find what a big selection of songs they offered. There where lots of options with lots of different genres. Spotify had playlist full of great copyright free songs with great potential. YouTube also offered a wide variety of songs but I still preferred to look through Spotify since it was much easier to utilize and go through. However, since Soundcloud haves users upload their own music from all types of genres with a wide range of terms. Most of these songs are royalty free, to find out, I just need to filter the license type on Soundcloud and be truly sure that the song is copyright free.

Research - Silent Films

Today, me and my partner got more in depth with the silent element in films as to getting an idea on what crating a silent film would be like. Before I began my research I thought silent films weren't a thing anymore since the only thing I knew about them where that they where incredibly popular in the late 20s. But as I began researching I found out that even though the silent film era peaked about a century ago, the films are making a come back and becoming increasingly popular among younger audiences. This made me pretty excited about doing a silent film. I'm eager about this element in film because I believe silent films are an important part of film history. Silent films evolved film language over time, you can see this by comparing how camera angles were used a certain way to show emotion in a silent film. Not just the camera movements but also the derived actions of the actors had a significant importance to keep the film moving forward.

A silent film is a film with no audible dialog or synchronized sound. Because of this, acting in these films was much more physical than in any other type of movies. The audience would have to read the character's emotion by looking at their facial expressions and their body language. Silent films may have subtitles or title cards to help the viewer understand and stay on track with the film. But for the most part, silent films convey narrative and emotion visually. A really famous silent film is, The Lodger 1927, this is the story of an innocent man wrongly accused of murder. The film haves no dialog or synchronized sounds whatsoever, but it does have a score throughout the entire film. This score keep the viewer captivated and helps them feel a certain way about the story line.

Because silent films are communicated well by very experienced and expressive actors because of the physical process, I believe this would be very hard to execute ourselves, me and my partner. But if we really put our research into good use and learned from these films, we could come up with something not too bad.
